Sell and Redeem Gift Cards

Gift cards are sold like anything else: add one to a ticket and check out. They are managed under Sales → Gift Cards / Packages in the left navigation.

Clients can also buy them from your website, unless you have turned that off:

• Hide Personalized Gift Card from Website
• Disable Gift Card Purchase from Website

The same settings apply in your own app and in Perceny Go. Gift Cards on your page there opens the purchase right in the app: the client picks plans or a personalized amount, can send it to someone else, and pays with a saved card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or a new card. The codes show on screen to copy, and are texted and emailed as from the website.

When a client asks the AI receptionistCopy a link to this section

A client who asks the AI receptionist for a gift card, by text, chat or on the phone, gets the link to your own gift card page (/gift-cards/<your Location ID>). On a call the link is texted to them. The link goes out once per conversation: if they ask again, or say "okay", the receptionist points them to the text they already have, and if they say it never arrived it flags the conversation so your team can resend it.

The receptionist sends the link only when the page would actually sell them one. It sends none, and tells the client why and that they can buy one at the shop, when:

• Disable Gift Card Purchase from Website is on;
• Hide Personalized Gift Card from Website is on and you have no active gift card plan to sell instead; or
• your website and booking pages are paused because your subscription lapsed.

To stop it offering gift cards at all, open Automation & AI → AI Assistant and turn off Gift Cards and Balances under Assistant Capabilities.

Redeeming oneCopy a link to this section

At checkout, choose the gift card as the payment method and apply it. If it does not cover the whole ticket, take the rest on another method; see Split a payment.

The balance is tracked on the card, so a partly used card keeps working.

More than one locationCopy a link to this section

In a location group a gift card plan carries Where it applies: This Location Only or All Locations in the Group. A shared plan is sold and redeemed at every location, and a card sold as shared travels with its owner as long as they keep gift card sharing switched on. A service-specific benefit on the plan for a service only one location offers stays on it and counts only there; everything else counts everywhere. Share the plans you already have in one step from Group → Settings → Sharing → Share what already exists. See Run more than one location.

When you sell a gift card you have not earned the money. You have taken cash for a service you still owe. It is a liability.

Perceny lets you keep that out of your day's numbers:

• Exclude Gift Cards from Cash Register (Cash Register Settings): gift-card revenue is not attributed to the drawer.
• Hide Tips for Products & Gift Cards (Payment Settings): no tip prompt on a gift-card-only ticket.

Turn the first on unless you have a reason not to. Otherwise December looks like your best month ever and January looks like a collapse, when in fact one paid for the other.

Commission on gift cardsCopy a link to this section

Decide deliberately whether selling a gift card earns commission, and if so, whether it earns again when the card is redeemed. Paying twice on the same money is a common and expensive mistake. If in doubt, pay on redemption; that is when the work happens.

PackagesCopy a link to this section

Packages are the same idea applied to services: a client buys several visits up front and draws them down. The same liability logic applies, and the same advice about when commission is earned.
