Sell Products and Track Stock
Adding retail to Perceny: stock levels, low-inventory alerts, SKUs, margin, and selling on a ticket.
Products live alongside services in Services and Products, and share the same editor, with an extra Inventory section.
Create a product
The usual fields — name, price, category, order, description — plus, under Inventory:
- Stock — how many you have.
- Low inventory — the level at which Perceny warns you.
- Desired stock — what you want to hold. This is your reorder target.
- High inventory — an upper bound, so overstocking is visible too.
- SKU — your own code, or the supplier's.
And under Pricing and Commission:
- Supply price — what it cost you. This is your margin.
- Reduce supply price from commission — whether the cost comes off before commission. For retail, this is usually on. See Supply price and commission.
Selling one
Add it to a ticket like a service. With Allow Quantity for Ticket Items on, two of the same bottle is one line with a quantity of two rather than two lines.
Stock decrements when the ticket is completed.
Commission on retail
Retail commission is usually different from service commission. Two ways to express it:
- A custom commission on the product, with Override regular commission on, so the person's default rate does not apply.
- Or supply price with reduction on, so they earn their normal rate on the margin rather than on the sticker price.
The second scales better: it stays right when your cost changes.
Cash and the drawer
Two settings decide where retail cash sits:
- Keep Product Cash in Business (Payment Settings) — under Stylist Keeps Cash, the product part of a cash payment stays in the drawer; only service cash goes to the stylist. Usually what you want: the stock was the shop's.
- Exclude Products from Cash Register (Cash Register Settings) — whether product revenue is attributed to the register at all.
Watching stock
Low Stock Alerts is a built-in report. Inventory notifications in Communications push a warning when something drops below its low-inventory level.
Set low inventory to reorder lead time × weekly sales, not to zero. A warning that fires when you have run out is not a warning.
Tips on product-only tickets
Hide Tips for Products & Gift Cards (Payment Settings) removes the tip step when a ticket holds only products or gift cards. Most shops turn this on — asking for a tip on a bottle of shampoo is awkward for everyone.
Reports worth reading
- Top Products — what actually moves.
- Low Stock Alerts — what to reorder.
- Revenue by Service — with supply prices filled in, the difference between revenue and margin becomes visible.
Permissions
The Product permission category is on its own tab in Features Configuration. A common shape: stylists can sell but not edit; managers can edit stock; owners can do everything. Editing stock is how counts drift.
