Tap to Pay, Printers and Scanners
The hardware side: taking cards on a phone, printing receipts, and scanning to speed up the desk.
Tap to Pay
Enable Tap to Pay in the left navigation turns the phone in your pocket into a card reader. No hardware, no pairing, no battery to charge.
Once it is enabled, it appears as a payment method at checkout: choose it, and hold the client's card or phone to the back of yours.
It is worth enabling even if you have readers. It is the fallback when a reader dies mid-day, and it is what lets a mobile stylist take payment at the client's house.
Card readers
A physical terminal pairs with the device driving it. Once paired, choose the terminal payment type at checkout and the reader wakes with the amount.
Three Payment Settings control what the client sees on it:
- Display Items on Terminal
- Display Tips on Terminal
- Always Display Tips on Terminal
And Terminal Pictures (Features Configuration) sets what it shows while idle — your branding rather than a blank screen.
When a reader misbehaves, work through Card reader will not connect.
Printers
Receipt printers connect per member: Is Connect To Printer is a preference on the person, not a business-wide setting, because in most shops one or two people are near the printer and the rest are not.
Print Receipt After Checkout (Ticket Settings) prints automatically once a ticket is fully paid, with any payment method.
If a receipt does not print, check in this order: is the printer on and loaded; is the member connected to it; is Print Receipt After Checkout on; was the ticket actually fully paid.
Scanners
A barcode scanner speeds up retail: scan the bottle rather than searching the menu for it. Products need their SKU filled in for this to be worth anything.
Kiosk devices
A tablet running the kiosk is its own kind of hardware. See Set up the kiosk — and turn on Device Lock, so a client cannot wander out of the kiosk into the rest of Perceny.
Slideshows
Device Slideshows puts a full-screen slideshow on an idle kiosk or display device: a price list, a promotion, your retail. It costs nothing and it is the only advertising that reaches people who are already in the room.
