Payment Settings, Switch by Switch
Every setting on the Payment Settings tab: methods, tips, processing fees, surcharges, deposits, fees and Stylist Keeps Cash.
Features Configuration → Payment Settings is the tab with the most money in it. It decides what you accept, who absorbs the card fee, how tips are split, and what a client is charged when they do not show up.
The tab opens with the Payment permission category.
What you accept
Payment Methods — the methods available on a ticket. Everything else on this tab assumes this list.
Default Payment Type — the method pre-selected when a new ticket is created.
Default Appointment Payment Type — the method pre-selected when a client books an appointment, online or at the kiosk. Booking falls back to another available method automatically when this one cannot be used.
Disable Pay with Card from Booking — removes the card option from the booking page, leaving your other accepted methods.
Enable Klarna Pay Later, Enable Affirm Pay Later, Enable Afterpay Pay Later — let clients split a purchase into instalments. You still receive the full amount.
Cards on file
Always Require Card on File — clients must save a card before they can book, which is what makes no-show and cancellation fees collectable.
Deposits and prepayment
Require Prepayment at Booking — clients are charged the deposit when they book, rather than after the ticket is completed.
Require Prepayment for New Clients — first-time clients pay a deposit even when returning clients do not.
Require Prepayment for Existing Clients — the reverse.
Prepayment Amount (Fixed) — a flat deposit.
Prepayment Amount (Percentage) — a deposit as a percentage of the appointment total.
Include Tips in Deposit — bases the deposit on services plus tips. When off, only service prices count.
Non-Refundable Window (Minutes) — how many minutes before the appointment the prepayment stops being refundable. 0 means never refundable; -1 means always refundable.
Cancellation and no-show fees
Cancellation Fee Fixed / Cancellation Fee Percentage — charged when a client cancels.
No-Show Fee (Fixed) / No-Show Fee (Percentage) — charged when they simply do not come.
Charge Default Card on File for No-Shows — when the appointment had no card attached at booking, fall back to the client's default card.
Charge Default Card on File for Cancellations — the same, for cancellations.
The rules about when a card becomes required (after a no-show, after a late cancellation) live on Appointment Settings.
Discounts
Discount threshold — the maximum total discount one stylist may give inside a pay period. 0 disables the cap.
Block discounts after threshold — when on, discounts past the threshold are blocked and only the remaining allowance is applied. When off, the discount still goes through, but management is notified.
Allow Multiple Discounts — lets more than one discount stack on the same ticket. When off, one promo code per ticket.
Processing fees and surcharges
This block decides who absorbs card costs. Read Who pays the processing fee if you are setting it up for the first time.
Client Pays Online Processing Fees — adds online card processing fees to the client's total. When off, the business or the stylist absorbs them.
Online Payment Surcharge (Fixed) / Online Payment Surcharge (Percentage) — an extra amount added on online payments.
Stylist Share of Online Surcharge — how much of that surcharge is paid to the stylist as commission.
Client Pays In-Person Processing Fees, In-Person Payment Surcharge (Fixed), In-Person Payment Surcharge (Percentage), Stylist Share of In-Person Surcharge — the same four controls for in-person payments.
Add Fees to External Payments — applies your processing fees to external methods like Cash App and Zelle.
Deduct Unpaid Processing Fee from Balance — when the client does not cover the fee, take it from the business balance.
Convenience Fee Enabled — relabels every "fee" shown to clients as "convenience fee" throughout the product.
Staying inside the law
Enforce State Surcharge Rules — applies your state's card-surcharging rules, such as credit-only fees and percentage caps.
Apply Processing Fee Limitations to Online Payments — extends those caps and card-type rules to online payments including card entry, Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay.
Processing Fee Cap (%) — the highest percentage you will pass on. Leave empty to use the state or card-network default.
Apply Processing Fee on Credit Cards, … on Debit Cards, … on Prepaid Cards — per card type. Leave unset to use the default.
Require Separate Line Item for Fee — always show the processing fee as its own line on receipts and summaries.
Require Pre-Charge Disclosure — show the client a disclosure about the fee before the charge runs.
Tips
Transfer Tips to Stylists — pays each tip out to the stylist who earned it instead of holding it in the business balance.
Tip Distribution — how a tip is split across the stylists collaborating on one ticket.
Terminal Tip Distribution — the same, when the tip was chosen by the client on the card reader.
Are Tips Subject to Fees? — charges processing fees on tips by paying the stylist after the ticket. When off, tips are paid first and avoid the fee.
Deduct Processing Fee from Terminal Tips — subtracts the card fee from tips added on the terminal before paying the stylist.
Switch to Percentage Tips Above — once the ticket total reaches this amount, tip options switch from fixed dollar amounts to percentages.
Display Tips on Terminal — asks for a tip on the reader.
Always Display Tips on Terminal — asks even when the client already chose a tip earlier.
Display Items on Terminal — shows the line items on the reader.
Hide Tips for Products & Gift Cards — hides the tip step when the ticket holds only products or gift cards.
Hide Tips for Memberships — the same for membership sales.
Tip Confirmation Payment Types — which payment types prompt the client to choose a tip before paying. Clear the list to disable.
Cash the stylist keeps
Stylist Keep Cash — stylists keep the cash they collect. The amount is deducted from their commission payout and recovered from their next card payment. See Stylist Keeps Cash, explained before turning this on; it changes how balances read for everyone.
Stylist Keep Cash Payment Methods — which methods count as "cash the stylist keeps".
Keep Product Cash in Business — the product portion of a cash payment stays in the business register; only service cash goes to the stylist.
Keep Membership Cash in Business — membership cash stays in the register.
Add Stylist Keep Cash to Register — records kept cash in the business register for tracking. The stylist still keeps the cash and still owes the same amount.
Payouts
Fast Payouts Enabled — sends payouts automatically every day at the time you choose, with a 2% fee on each transferred amount.
Fast Payout Time — the time of day those payouts go out.
