Payments & Cash

Split a Payment Across Methods

Part cash, part card, a gift card and the rest on a phone — taking several payments against one ticket.

Beginner4 minWeb & app

One ticket can take as many payments as it needs. Each one clears part of the balance; the ticket closes when nothing is left.

How to do it

  1. Open checkout on the ticket.
  2. Choose the first method and enter the amount rather than accepting the full total.
  3. Take the payment.
  4. The ticket returns with the remaining balance. Choose the next method.
  5. Repeat until the balance is zero.

Common combinations

Gift card, then card. Redeem the gift card for its value; charge the rest. See Sell and redeem gift cards.

Deposit, then the balance. A deposit taken at booking is already a payment against the ticket. Checkout shows the remainder. With auto-finish on for prepaid appointments, that remainder can be charged to the saved card without anyone touching it.

Two people paying. A couple splitting a shared visit. Two card payments against one ticket.

Cash, then card. They had some cash and not enough. Take the cash for what they have, and the card for the rest.

Where the money is recorded

Each payment is its own transaction with its own method, so:

  • Only the cash portion reaches the cash register.
  • Only the card portion incurs a card fee.
  • Under Stylist Keeps Cash, only the cash portion becomes kept cash.

The ticket's Previous Payments view shows every transaction against it.

Tips on a split

The tip is taken once, on the ticket, not per payment. Which payment carries it depends on the order and the method — check the ticket afterwards if the tip matters for a fee calculation.

Refunding one part

Refund the transaction, not the ticket. Each transaction tracks how much of it has already been refunded, so you can give back the cash portion and leave the card portion alone. See Refund a ticket or a single item.

If it went wrong

If a payment was taken on the wrong method and the ticket is now fully paid, do not stack a refund and a new charge by hand. Use Ignore Previous Payments at checkout — it refunds everything already cleared and recharges the full amount on the method you choose. See Fix a payment taken as cash.
